Dooby Duck

Dooby was originally designed in 1981 but made his debut in the main stage act in the 1985/ 6 Christmas Pantomime 'Babes in the Wood' starring Les Dawson at the Palace Theatre Manchester. He appeared in 'The Ghostbusters' sequence and literally stopped the show. He then appeared in the same sequence for the 1987 Children's Variety Performance from The London Palladium and was given his first series for BBC Television. This was called 'Dooby Duck's Disco Bus' and ran for thirteen five-minute episodes. It was transmitted at 3.55 in the afternoon and brought in an audience of some three million viewers. It had somewhat of a cult following amongst students. Prior to the transmission of the series, excerpts were shown in a programme called 'The Satellite Show'. Series Two was called 'Dooby's Duck Truck' and featured Dooby and the gang touring the disco in a huge articulated Truck. Again there were thirteen episodes. Series Three was called 'Dooby's Euro Tour' and featured episodes in Spain, France etc. Harry was the voice of Dooby, which was processed to a higher pitch.
